flooring and even window treatments can have a major impact on the value of the
appeal of your home or for resale. So what’s in? So what’s in is sustainability.
Okay. What’s out is fast furniture. Of course, consumers have been eco-conscious…meaning they’re shunning away from the fast furniture, where you
have to put it all together. I’ve done a lot of that. A big name comes to mind on that one. With all those pieces. Now people are…you have to have a degree to even put that thing together. People are opting for higher quality pieces. Oh yeah! I don’t blame them. Because those other ones, just don’t last as long. There’s always a noticeable shift toward
individuality. Today, in interiors today, homeowners are investing in items that “Spark Joy”. Sparking joy. Wasn’t there a TV show about Sparking Joy? To incorporate this trend, you can take your own wood furniture or rattan furniture and just refinish it. Accessorize your room with a mix of sentimental items. That’s
that’s better anyway right! Some newer finds that you may find for your
space. “Sparking Joy” sounds a lot better then having to put all those pieces
together. I agree. So this is our second one on the list. What’s in? Cozy. What’s out? Cold. I’ve never been a big one for the cold.
I love cozy. I agree. We’ve seen a lot of the cool greys, which I do love the
greys and the industrial finishes. Designers are moving away from that, and are now creating more cozy atmospheres. Cozy’s good. The new trend is creating warm cozy spaces through color, texture and shape. This year expect to see warmer
neutrals, earth tones, and nature-inspired shades of blue and green. I love that! Along with warm metals of gold and brass. Brass is back? Yeah. Interesting…interesting. The other thing that we’re going to see more of are the hardwood floors. They’re really popular. The classic choices like walnut, mahogany and oak in the richer and darker tones. I like that wood looking ceramic tile. You can get that in all the colors and the that is so durable and lasts forever. Okay number three. What’s in? Bold. Out? Boring. Bold is back. For years we’ve seen neutrals. Now vivid colors and principles take center stage. We will be
seeing geometric designs, color blocking and floral patterns on everything from
pillows, to rugs to wallpaper. Did you say wallpaper? I said wallpaper. I can’t believe it. Do you know how much wallpaper I’ve taken down through the years? There’s also going to be more colors in
the kitchen. Now if you’re selling of course, neutrals are still your safest
bet. Absolutely. Now Benjamin Moore came out with their color trend of the year
for 2020. That’s a rosy pink. Sherwin-Williams is Navy, right? Like a Navy…yeah. Those bold colors can make a really good statement on an accent wall and your accessories. I’m just glad I got to say Navy. Yes. So our fourth one…What’s in? Nature. How about out? Industrial. We are seeing design centers
around health and wellness. Benefits of connecting with nature. Floral and
botanical patterns are hot, along with nature-inspired hues. Like what we just
said… blues, greens and earth tones. There’s also going to be more
house plants. Natural materials like rattan and wicker. Designers predict that
concrete floors and edison light bulbs are on the way out. Okay. This is our last
one…number five. It is. Ok, so what’s in? Functional. Out? Fussy. Fussy. So in 2020, homeowners want designs that are beautiful, livable and
that they are low maintenance materials. Like…engineered quartz, which is more
durable than natural stone. That is now the number one choice for
countertops. You’re looking for waterproof, wood looking luxury
vinyl. It’s the fastest-growing segment in flooring. Yes. They also looking for improvements for water and stain-resistant vinyl, the fabrics. Performance fabric. Exactly…for your upholstery. Yes, yes. So now that functional is hot. What’s not? Designers say mirrored furniture,
open shelving, white kitchens…they’re all too impractical for today’s busy families. It makes sense. Yes. So, the question to you is: What is your favorite trend? Do you like the new trends of 2020? The new bold colors? Are you going to make any changes? We’d love to know. If you are considering moving to our area, check out the relocation guide which has
