Christmas Stocking Hanger | DIY Christmas Decorations Ideas Recycled

Hi everyone, I’m Alex and it’s Christmas! Hi everyone I’m Alex and on today’s episode I’ll be teaching you how I made these stocking hangers to hang your stockings
without damaging you mantel I got this idea from Rebecca Robeson’s channel, and I knew I could find a way to DIY it DIY it cheap and easy If you liked this video don’t forget to like it and subscribe for more affordable DIYs and let’s do this shall we? alright so for this project I have previously glued together two pieces of wood that I had left over from a previous project If I’m being completely honest I would recommend that you use a single piece of wood,
since later some of the parts broke off exactly on the unions and had to be
re-glued later I googled some reindeer silhouettes and
draw them on top of the boards simplifying the lines and making sure that the legs end up at the same height or simply draw them directly on the edge
since this needs to sit flat on top of the base If you’re not very good with drawing you can also print the silhouettes and paste them on top of the porch with some glue-stick. This doesn’t need to be exact
or perfect, the most important thing with this step is that the proportions are
correct Since being only a silhouette mistakes
are easily forgiven I left some square pieces under the legs
since I figured it would be easier to glue it to the base if it had something
a bit more significant than just tiny tiny little feet. Tho you might not be able to make a single line since we’ll have to cut in between the legs later I still found it very helpful I measured a piece of thick heavy wood to be about the size of the sculptures, a bit bigger if you can And, in case you haven’t figured it
out, we are next going to cut all the pieces with the jigsaw, following the
lines carefully and with patience I recommend that you start with the antlers, and then the legs and if you decide to make a different shape, start
with the most delicate part, since it will be easier to tackle with a bigger
body to hold it to the table Depending on the type of food that you’re using some parts may chip or break Do not panic. Just set them aside and we will
glue them later My reindeers broke in various points and it all worked out fine in the end. Another recommendation is use a
size of blade that is adequate to your size of board. A bigger blade is more
likely to break things, and one that is to small is going to slow you down and make it harder to follow the lines so keep that in mind I also cut the bases to size You can help yourself with a regular saw
in the places that you can’t reach with a jigsaw For the next part, of course, we
are going to glue back on the pieces that chipped off Being such an elaborate shape I was not able to use my clamps to hold the parts for the glue dry, so I used some
painters tape instead leave it alone to dry for at least four hours, though I prefer to leave mine to dry overnight The next day I sanded all the pieces to remove the splinters and the previous paint from all four pieces. Remove all the dust and apply a coat of white all around I wanted my reindeers to have a rustic
feel so I applied a spare coat that permeated the wood to peak through at
some spots, but feel free to apply the finish that you like the most To finish on this project all that is left to do is add a nail or hook to hang the stocking and glue the reindeers to the base I went with this hooks that cost me one euro for a whole package, and didn’t even had to drill a hole to get them in. Dimply
twisted them while applying pressure till they were fully in I attached the reindeers to the base with some hot glue and no nails since this is mostly a decorative piece that won’t be getting too much handling anyways hi everyone let no ups Thank you so much for watching! Unfortunately I started this YouTube
channel a bit late in the year so I couldn’t make that much contente about
holidays related projects but I think this one came out exactly how I
envisioned it and I would love to see some of you guys recreate this project These upcoming weeks I’m actually going to attempt to do some vlogging to show you guys what we are up to this holiday season and maybe even some tips on online shopping and Christmas dinner All from how I’m setting the table and what I’m cooking Don’t forget to subscribe and I’ll see you guys next time
